working late...

[click on picture to enlarge - taken via iPhone]

Remember this one? Well, this was taken the same day, a little earlier at 7ish pm.

From left to right: a glimse at the Condé Nast builing - the new Bank of America headquarters (which claims it will be one of the greenest building in the city) - the white one is the Grace building (you can see it here too) - behind it with the little square light is the Metlife building (the one that sits on top of Grand Central) - the cutest and most elegant of all, the Chrysler building - and just in front with the touch of orange is another construction building (well, not exactly. It used to be the Verizon builing. They are changing its façade into a green glass one.)

All those little lights they left on the building in construction, gives it a Christmassy look. A little poetry in the Manhattan skyline.

Neat photo!

Construction abounds across the country. Guess they want to finish as soon as possible.

The Chrysler building's beauty is timeless, isn't it? You can never tire of it and every time you look at it, you discover something you hadn't seen before. These new buildings, dunno, they all look the same. Man, I'm too young to write stuff like that!

Totally unrelated but I have to ask: if you come across an Algerian who can translate into English, would you please ask him/her if they'd translate a song for a poor soul in Boston who has fallen in love with the voice of an Algerian singer and is dying to know what this wonderful song talks about? So far no luck finding the translation online or an Algerian in Boston, believe it or not. :(

Is that the view from your office window? It is an awesome photo. Not many people can get this bird eye view unless they work in one of those buildings.

Building skyscrapers is marvelous to watch. I never tire of it and you are so lucky to have a bird's eye seat to watch it every day. It does look like a Christmas tree. Cheers!

•blue: thanks. This has been going on for a while now. It is pretty cool to see the project taking shape.
•fénix: the Chrysler is just the most elegant of all. I have to disagree on the new buildings though. There is one building that I could look at for hours and it is rather new - you can actually see a little piece of it here (the first one, Condé Nast). I am sure I will post something about it one of these days.
About the Algerian singer. Who is it? What's the song. I think they speak Arabic and French there. If the song happens to be in French, I would he happy to translate it for you, of course.
•ming: there are a lot of great views from our office building. When I stay late and need a little break or motivation boost, I just have to turn around and look at the views. It's the reward.
•clueless: I agree. It is fascinating to see the progress. One thing I regret is not to have taken enough pictures of the different stages of the 3 or 4 buildings shaping up around there. It is one the best views. We are definitely spoiled.
•sinapse: I know what you mean! I happen to know people who this picture inspire completely different thoughts. I just find it so very pretty. ;) Did you see the contrast between the BofA builing and the gracile Chrysler? How cool is THAT!?

They speak Algerian-Arabic which would appear to be somehow different. I wouldn't know. The song is in Algerian and I've found the lyrics in that language but so far I haven't been able to find an English-speaking Algerian. There's a Middle Eastern shop around here, tomorrow I'll go there with a copy of the lyrics. I think they are Moroccans but their American-born teens might be able to translate this.

Every week I feature (what I consider to be) great music from around the world. You might've seen the widget below my avatar. This week I'm featuring "Così celeste" (So celestial) by Zucchero and this Algerian guy (who also sang "Desert Rose" with Sting, remember?) - gosh, this is taking forevah! Sorry. Anyway, looking for Così celeste, I found another song that blew my socks off, even more than Zucchero's and I'm dying to know what the song talks about. It's so powerful, it really touches your soul. The End. >8@

Yay! The new Bank of America building is the highest rated (platinum rating) LEED certified skyscraper in NYC. Going forward, all construction done by the company will be LEED certified, including renovations of current space. That means that during demo they sort all of the "trash" and recycle absolutely everything that can be recycled, and then during construction use as many earth-friendly materials and processes as possible, down the adhesives used to lay carpet and the paint put on the walls. Also, all energy saving fixtures, and layouts that make the best use of natural light to reduce the need for artificial light, as well as increase the happiness of the cube dwellers (no more "window offices" to block the light from getting to the cuber dwellers!). I don't work for them and happen to be in the midst of moving into a newly renovated space or anything... ;)

Anyway, great view from you office! I'm currently on a floor with new windows (hence the moving to a newly renovated office!), so I'm totally jealous of your birds eye view!

•fénix: i will have to check it out! Hope you find the translation you are looking for and that it match what you imagined the song is about.
•cowbark: we are very spoiled in our office, you're right about that: they never went for the cube concept - open views for everybody. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to post such an interesting comment! :) Hope your new office will be a great place to work in.

•keropok: it is great indeed. And fun. It is perfect for me since I have no idea what I am doing anyway. I am just a happy snapper and note taker kinda photographer.
