welcome to harlem. harlem, usa.

235 W125 St - map it here

Ooops, I almost forgot to post something this Monday.
So here we go, a quick one: one famous sign on W125st in Harlem. Harlem, USA that is.

As for the Victoria Theater, the building this sign belongs to, it has been closed since the late 90ies. There is a whole controversy as developpers want to convert it into a luxurious condo tower while community activists want it restored to its former splendor and used for local artistic events.

My friends and I went to Sylvia's for some soul food a couple years ago and we were quite disappointed. The food was below average (tasted like college cafeteria food), overly salted and overpriced.

But I would love to go back and try out the other soul food restaurants there.

Who needs more luxury condos? I hope the activists get the last word.

@ ming: I've been to the Abyssinian churh for the beautiful gospel but I wasn't able to convince anyone to have brunch in the neighborhood. So we went to The Little Pink Cup in the Village. I have yet to eat some soul food! We should arrange a brunch trip.

@ b.c.: I know! And you should advise me of the good spots to go!!!

@ fénix: couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, doesn't look like it's gonna happen. There's not that many luxury condos in Harlem.
