on ne joue pas avec la nourriture!

breakfast table - somewhere in the Upper West Side
(wasa, ricotta, fresh figs, freshly ground pepper, honey, yellow raspberries, green tea)

"Don't play with your food! ", used to say my parents. To which I would now reply: "pfff!!!" and roll my eyes.
See, I have started this new little project: breakfast pictures. They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so better start on the right foot!
Why do I bother? First, designing a pretty plate is so much fun.
Second, everything tastes so much better when it looks good. Simple ingredients have more flavors when elegantly presented.
And third, it's a way of eating better, healthier food. When you have to prepare it and compose a pretty picture, you have to opt for variety, colors, contrasts, ... you have to experiment and use your imagination.

So, ... what did you have for breakfast? I need ideas! Colorful, pretty, healthy ideas!

I agree with magiceye. My breakfasts are a sad chapter these days, I'm just too tired so I go buy something.

Like your shot! Looks delicious!!

The most colorful breakfast I made was chicken porridge with carots, wolberry and spring onions.

My goodness, that is so tempting and looks delicious too!
I have bread with peanut jam and banana most of the time. Sometimes I eat cereal or pancake :)

Well, that certainly looks a lot better than the dull cereal I had this morning! You are very creative with breakfast.
(Thanks for that great info you found on the Griffon Cutlery Corp. You are such a good sleuth! I wouldn't have thought they had that much info online about it. It was good to see an earlier photo of it too. Thanks for finding it!)

Brava! A beautiful breakfast indeed! After almost a week in New Mexico, where breakfasts were too hearty and almost always involved eggs, cheese and either red or green chile sauce, I was happy to get back to my regular breakfasts. Usually, it's a bowl of some fiberiffic cereal with 1% milk and half a multigrain English muffin with either a shmear of peanut butter or one fried egg. Enough to power me through the morning, but I don't have to go out and plow a field to burn it off.

For breakfast I usually have toasted whole grain bread with peanut butter and cherry jam, a yogurt and a large glass of orange juice. But your breakfast looks absolutely delicious.

Your food arrangement is beautiful.
I had a tasty breakfast of yogurt with fresh blueberries and sourwood honey. But arrangement? I'd have to echo your pffff. It was a gormless lump in a bowl.

you made that yourself? I am so impressed!

Hmmm, this looks very good. I'd eat it!

I'm also craving Dosas, now that magiceye mentions them...

Me? I had boiled Chinese dumplings.

Eliane, I have to admit, I admire your patience and creativity in food preparation and food photography.

Also, I noticed that you do a lot of simple food stuff that don't need too much actual cooking. I hate the smell of cooked food in my apartment. And I hate the clean-up even more.

Yes! I love pictures of food, and breakfast food can be especially interesting. I look forward to more of these, and maybe I'll post some of my own (which may inspire me to be more creative than my usual toast and coffee).
