the pond at bryant park - map it here
This is a picture taken at Bryant Park sometime last week, before The Pond at Bryant Park (the outdoor ice rink) opened. The "ice" was still liquid. You can now go make your pirouettes in the middle of midtown Manhattan.

So it's really cold enough already for this to freeze? Or are there refrigeration pipes under the pond to assist the process?
Looks like my wife and I lucked out last week as the weather in NY was glorious!
i love ice skating outdoor !
enfin cette année je vais pouvoir profiter de la patinoire du Bryant park ;o)
I'd absolutely love to visit Bryant Park one day. I've seen Ming's images and ow this. All super.
Walked by there yesterday lunchtime on the way to Portolano's annual sample sale and the ice was reflecting the sun and skaters were twirling happily... and my camera was in the office .. AAAARGH

pond? outdoor rink? I haven't been up there since they had the exhibit of 30s and 40s era typewriters..
I have only skated on an outdoor rink once, back at home in Idaho when I was about 10. It was cold, but beautiful, and I loved it. Someday I'd like to visit NYC in the winter and try this one! (If I can still get up on skates, that is!)
I wonder if I can find my skates. Do they have sharpening there? Well, I can always ride the little carousel (that's about the only spin I can do). Le Carrousel is the one I know of with a FROG that you can ride!
Nice capture of the ice.
