que l'année nouvelle vous soit douce et légère

brooklyn bridge - above the east river - map it here

Allez hop, let's welcome 2009 and let's make it a fabulous one! All of us!!!

And we start the year with a tradition in the CityDailyPhoto family: the monthly theme day photo! Click here to view thumbnails for all participants.

For today, I am supposed to post my best, most fantastic, most favorite, most wonderful picture of 2008. How am I supposed to do that? Frankly, it breaks my heart: browsing through all my 2008 pictures, I found good reasons to pick almost every one of them. Not that they are all esthetically, technically, good but each of them is somewhat memorable, a little snapshot of that day, that place, that feeling I had when I snapped it. You know what I am talking about.

I think this one is a good choice for today: it reminds me how much fun it is to be spontaneous, to explore the other side of the river just because you feel like it and it also seems very fitting to illustrate all those good resolutions we are going to take today and probably not keep for very long. Exercising more anyone?

I leave my French-speaking buddies with this little tune, C'que c'est beau la photographie - Les Frères Jacques:

happy new year!!!

bonne année!!!

gelukkig nieuwjaar!!!

I know what you mean about a tough choice! This is a worthy one for the theme day. I'm not even going to pretend I'm going to do excerise. It'll never happen!

Happy New Year :)

Dear, dear Eliane, I DO know what you mean! You are such a breath of positive, beautiful air here among our little (HUGE!?) community of CDPBers. That blue sky and sunlight and sense of adventure and activity is just what we are all longing for in this new year, eh? And as for those resolutions, I started practicing mine in November, so I'm keeping them fairly well, still and maybe for a number of more months? :-). Thank you for your freindly ways and your wonderful take on NYC. Maybe someday I will get to visit there and meet you. I hope! Best to you, and lots of great adventures in 2009!

A great shot and well should be your #1. Of course I love these guys singing. I may just sit here all night. They make me feel so happy just listening to them. Maybe I can find them for myself.
Bonne Année Eliane!

Mon dieu! The Brooklyn Bridge, the location of my post of Dec. 29. After the all the years I lived in NYC and the many, many times I have returned, I never walked across the bridge until last Sunday. This picture is so dramatic, so clear and the whole scene looks so fresh - it makes me want to take a deep breath and say "aaahh!" with affection for my home town.

Thank you very much for your kind comment today. I'm sorry I don't get around to leaving comments on yours very much - or most others, for that matter, with the booming growth of CDPB. Except, of course, for Virginia and my son's Chicago DPB. Both of them would have a word with me if I didn't. I must make a resolution to write a note here more often, as I always enjoy your work. Best wishes for a happy 2009.

BTW, there is a folder of my NYC pix from last weekend that I have edited so far at http://flickr.com/photos/bobcrowe/sets/72157611642689761/ .
