It's almost five. Peak hour on the Brooklyn Bridge Promenade. Tourists, bikers, runners, commuters, ... all perched above the East River, taking in (or ignoring) the fabulous views of the Manhattan and Brooklyn skylines.

Meet the Queen Mary 2, the fanous transatlantic ocean liner docked at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook, opposite Governors Island. You can learn all bout it on Wikipedia and on the Cunard Line website, where I found those amusing comparisons:

• more than twice as long as the Washington Monument is tall (550 ft.)
• 147 feet longer than the Eiffel Tower is tall (984 ft.)
• more than 3½ times as long as Westminster's Tower (Big Ben) is high (310 ft.)
• only 117 feet shorter than the Empire State Building is tall (1248 ft.)

So on Wednesdays, my friends Virginia, Conrad and I challenge each others into preparing something from our kitchen. We pick a theme and we try it, snap it and post it. Who knows, in a few months, we might even be familiar with all the buttons of the oven! ;)

This week theme was "apples & pears". I've been pretty busy this week, so all I had time fore was a very simple fruit salad for breakfast. Yummy notheless.
